The Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has signed
into law a piece of legislation that imposes hefty Misuse and Cybercrimes Bill, 2018
also targets journalists, media houses, bloggers,
social media and other internet users.
The law has been widely condemned; last week,
the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)
warned that the law criminalises free speech.
Under the law, publishing what’s termed as “false
or fictitious information” will attract a $50,000 fine
or a two-year jail term.
It also extends the jail term to 10 years if the said
information directly leads to public chaos or
